Interested in contacts?

Many people love the look and feel of contact lenses. They offer a full field of vision, don’t fog up in cool or humid weather, and aren’t likely to get sat on accidentally. A lot of people also feel that glasses hide their facial features or cramp their style. If this sounds like you, then contacts might be the right vision correction option for you. The first step is booking a contact lens fitting in Houston to get started.

How is a contact lens fitting different from an exam?

Contact lenses are viewed as elective by insurance companies and therefore are not covered under a comprehensive annual eye exam. When you come in for an eye exam, we don’t automatically perform a contact lens fitting. This is because there are many different tests we need to do for contact wearers compared to those who don’t need or use contacts. So, if you’re coming in for an exam and you’re interested in contacts, let us know and we’ll help you determine if contacts are right for you and be ready for your contact lens fitting.

If you already wear contacts, it’s still important to schedule a contact lens fitting every two years. Contact refitting appointments help evaluate if your prescription needs to be updated, if you still have the right fit of contacts, and if the type and brand of contacts still suit your needs.

A contact lens exam includes a set of diagnostic, or trial lenses that you can try our for a few days before committing to purchasing contacts. The fitting also covers any additional follow-up appoints that are needed.

During a contact lens fitting appointment, we help you choose a suitable type and brand of contacts, take measurements and perform extra tests, and teach you how to properly insert and remove your contact lenses if it’s your first time wearing them.

Contact Lens Fit

Once you know the type of contacts you would like to wear, then our optometrist will need to take measurements of your eye. Contact lenses aren’t one-size-fits-all, so a contact fitting appointment helps ensure a proper fit. This is especially important because ill fitting contact lenses may not form to your eye properly. Improperly fitting contacts can make them less effective at correcting your vision, make them uncomfortable to wear, or even damage the delicate tissues of your eye.

During a contact lens fitting in Houston, our eye doctors take different measurements to help determine the right size of contacts. This might include your corneal curvature (the curvature of the surface of your eye), the size of your pupil and iris, and other measurements. Also, we may perform a tear film test, which helps determine how moist your eyes are. This can help determine your risks for dry eyes and might influence which types of contact lenses we recommend for you.

Once we have your measurements, we’ll give you a trial pair to help evaluate if the fit is right and whether you like the contact lenses. Then, after your contact lens fitting in Houston, we can order your contacts for you. We are also a preferred practice with every contact lens brand we carry and have excellent rebates on contact lenes ordered through our office!
